What should I pack for my dog on a trip?

Start with food, water, and a leash. But there is plenty more to make sure your dog is comfortable in all situations!

Friendly dog ready for a trip in the back of the car.

This is a question we often receive and one that is ever evolving as we as we can never be prepared for all situations!

As a dog owner, you know how much your furry friend means to you. They're always there to provide unconditional love and companionship, and you want to make sure they're happy and comfortable at all times. That's why it's important to be prepared when you head out of the house with your dog. Here are some essential items to bring along to ensure your dog has a great time while you're out for road trip, a hike, or a simple trip to the store:

Much of this list can be found on AMAZON, so start your cart as you start reading!

Dog Trip Packing List

  1. Leash, collar, and/or harness

  2. Food & Water, along with bowls

  3. Poop Bags and Wipes

  4. Toys & Treats

  5. First Aid Kit & Medication

Leash, collar and/or harness

A leash and collar are essential for keeping your dog under control while you're out and about. Make sure the collar fits properly and has your contact information on it in case your dog gets lost.

Our favorite leach and harness are from K9 Kouture. It provides the right amount of support without straining my neck and it comes in a bunch of different fancy colors to fit your mood!

Water and food

It's important to keep your dog hydrated and well-fed while you're on the go. Pack a water bottle and a bowl for your dog, as well as enough food for the duration of your outing.

The best water and food dishes for a trip are ones that don’t take up space! I like my pair of collapsible dog bowls we found on AMAZON. They hold an ample amount of both and are perfect for on the go!

Waste bags & wipes

Always bring enough poop bags to clean up after your dog. Not only is it the responsible thing to do, but it's also the law in many places. Also, if you are anything like me, new and stressful situations can sometimes cause me to make a little mess in my butt fur. Whether the mess is from the muddy puddle or a different type of mud it’s always smart to keep pet wipes handy.

Toys & Treats

My favorite items on the packing list! Make sure to pack a few of your dog's favorite toys and treats to keep them entertained and rewarded while you're out. A treat that not only tastes amazing, is easy on my stomach and takes me a while to finish is this Earth Animal - No Hide Dog Chew. Great for keeping me occupied during an outing and clean enough for me to each in the backseat on a long car ride.

First Aid Kit & Medication

It's always a good idea to have a first aid kit on hand in case of any emergencies. Make sure it includes items like bandages, gauze, and hydrogen peroxide - like this first aid kit. We keep one in both the car and the house at all times. If your dog is on any medications, make sure to bring them with you too.

Staying Prepared

By packing these essential items, you'll be prepared for any situation that may arise while you're out with your furry friend. Happy travels!
